Do I need WiFi 7 devices to benefit?

No. The U7 Pro is fully backward-compatible with WiFi 6, WiFi 5, and older devices — they just connect on 2.4 or 5 GHz the way they always have. WiFi 7 devices get the new 6 GHz lane to themselves.

Will it replace my router?

No. The U7 Pro is an access point, not a router. We pair it with a UniFi gateway (or use your existing one) so you get a real firewall, VLANs, and a controller for the whole network.

How many do I need for my house?

One U7 Pro covers most homes up to ~1,500 sq ft. For larger or multi-story homes we map your floorplan first and place 2–4 APs where the signal is actually needed — usually one per floor plus an outdoor unit for the patio.

Does it support 6 GHz everywhere in the house?

6 GHz is shorter-range than 5 GHz by design — faster but it doesn’t punch through walls as well. We plan AP placement so 6 GHz reaches the rooms that need it most (offices, media rooms) and 5 GHz fills the rest.

Do I need a UniFi gateway or controller subscription?

A controller is required, but there’s no subscription — it runs locally on a UniFi gateway or Cloud Key we install once. You own everything outright.

When do I need an in-wall AP vs. a ceiling AP?

Ceiling APs (like the U7 Pro) are for open spaces — living rooms, hallways, the whole-house backbone. In-wall APs are for specific rooms that already have an ethernet drop — a media wall behind the TV, a home office, a primary bedroom. Most homes use one or two ceiling APs plus a U7-IW or two in the rooms that need extra signal close to the device.

Does it require existing ethernet in the wall?

Yes — the U7-IW is powered by PoE from a single ethernet cable terminated at a standard single-gang wall box. If the drop isn’t there yet, we can pull one as part of the install (most TV walls and offices are easy; older homes vary).

Can I plug a TV and a console into the front ports at the same time?

Yes. The U7-IW has three 2.5 GbE pass-through ports on the face plate — one is the PoE-in from the wall, and the others are free for hardwiring a TV, a console, a streamer, or a desktop. One of the outputs can also pass PoE to a downstream device (camera, smart-home hub).

Will it interfere with the main ceiling AP?

No. The UniFi controller manages all APs as one network. Channels are coordinated, devices roam between APs automatically, and your phone or laptop just connects to whichever AP is closest — usually the in-wall one when you’re sitting on the couch.

What about a desk-side install in a home office?

Great use case. Desk-side puts WiFi 7 within a few feet of your laptop and any work-from-home gear, and the pass-through ports let you hardwire your desktop, dock, or printer without a separate switch under the desk.
